The 4th Quarter middle school students here at DMS are all working on drawing at the moment. Below you will find sixth grade shoe drawings, seventh grade still-life drawing, and eighth grade graphic design. Each project includes careful planning and the used of fine art strategies and skills. Students must get used to drawing light and looking at mistakes as a tool to help them determine the best shape and placement for their lines. 6th Grade Sixth grade students are furiously working to develop line drawing skills such as: drawing slow, clean lines, looking at the object, and fine details. Each student is working so hard to create the best drawing. We started the project without erasers to learn an old drawing skill which involves sketching and guide marks. This is such a difficult project and forces them to put forth more focus, and effort than they are used too. I'm proud of each of them! 7th Grade Students in seventh grade are developing a still-life drawing using similar skill sets as the sixth graders. Their project is a bit more advance as they are creating an arrangement and developing highlights, lowlights, shadows, back shadows, creating a background, and utilizing every trick to make their project dramatic. 8th Grade Students in eighth grade are creating a graphic design t-shirt using balance, contrast, and unity. This project is completely drawn (no tracing). So, students are really working on their lettering, drawing, and ways to show contrast using fine art skills. Great job students!
