About Me
Kathryn C. Christensen
Personal:
Hi! I'm Mrs. Christensen and I live near Denison, Iowa with my husband and three children. I am the middle school art teacher in the Denison Community Schools. My hobbies include: singing, gardening, photography, and drawing.
Qualifications:
Iowa State University
Bachelor's Degree: Elementary Education
Specializations: Special Education K- 6 and Art K-8
Philosophy:
Students are curious and are willing to learn when motivated. I challenge my students to think critically, ask questions, and to be open-minded. The following are principles that guide my teaching.
Vision:
Communication and observation skills are needed in all aspects of life. In the art room, students will learn to express their opinions, explain their artwork, and to view the world through different eyes. If students become observant as well as articulate, they will be able to handle any situation.
Motivation is flowing through every fiber of our being. It is in everyone and is a drive which compels us to complete a task whether it is a want or a need. Goal setting is like a brainstorming device to get students motivated. Students will set their own goals based on their interests and personality.
Check points from the standards and benchmarks serve as a reference point to tell if students have met goals. Peer observation, recording, and journaling is used to document change and to evaluate questioning, wait time, use of student ideas, acknowledgment, and non-verbals. Practice of questioning, wait time, etc.will be done deliberately and on a regular basis.
