An Illustration Project about You - Compassion & Empowerment (Student Examples)
An illustration:
- is a combination of text and images that helps the view understand a message more clearly.
- can show an emotion and/or an action.
- can be a drawing, painting, graphic, animal, figure, or thing.
- can be found in books, newspapers, memes, comics, cards, etc.
Day 1: Introduction & Brainstorming
Part A: Introduction 1. What is an illustration? 2. What is compassion? 3. What is empowerment? 4. Who are you and what would you like to say to yourself when you are feeling down? |

Your Challenge:
Objective:
- The student will create 1 illustration that helps the viewer understand a self-compassion/empowerment quote.
- The artwork will include the quote and image together (unified) in the space.
- Students will use two media (materials) to complete their design. (Students may practice and choose their medium).
Part B: Brainstorming: Thinking things through!
1. Choose a quote or message: (Choose a quote from the following themes.)
3. What materials are you interested in using? (choose at least 2)

Part C: Practice with materials!
- Which materials work together?
- Choose four materials to practice. You need to select 2 per side as a combination.
- Drawing: Pencil, colored pencil, marker, acrylic paint, watercolor, oil pastel, chalk pastel.
- Collage (printing, cutting, ripping, gluing): digital, magazines, and any of the above materials in drawing.
Part D: Final
1. Start your final (white paper). - at least 12x18 (can be larger)

*Hint: You may go back to your practice to try different looks/lines/spacing/colors out.

- Gather your materials. Which material works best to start with?
- If you want images printed, ask Mrs. C first.
