Art History Challenge #2: Ancient Art
This week we are venturing in to ancient art. There is a whole realm of ancient cultures and I can not begin to cover them all. So, I will be focusing on just a few this week. Feel free to explore different ancient art beyond this post.
Ancient art begins in Mesopotamia (2400bc) and the Egypt 'Old Kingdom' (2686bc). Egyptian rule lasted 3000 years until a Greek king, Alexander the Great, displaced the civilization. Egypt is divided into three kingdoms (old, middle, and new) and within that time, visions from India, Rome, Greece, and Celtic civilizations came to light. Early Christian art also began to emerge. Ancient art could not be classified without the Chinese Dynasty, and the Aztec, Inca, and Mayan civilizations. This is a very short list of cultures that have developed our way of life and how we view the world.
