Abstract Portraits
Students will create a watercolor resist (tape or colored pencil) abstract portrait incorporating both frontal and profile facial features.
- Step1: Students view artwork by Picasso and Frank Big Bear.
- Step 2: Chart - Students review frontal facial features and learn how to draw the profile views as well.
- Step 3: Students add to their chart by developing abstract ways to draw each view. Example 1, Example 2
Project 11. Brainstorm -newsprint paper.
a. tape design video 1, video 2 b. shape design-this will become the painted part of your art work. video c. choose an analogous colors (3 colors next to each other on the color wheel. -label colors (light, dark) d. show Mrs. C - 2 stars 2. Create a tape boarder around your final paper. video 3. Making the Tape Face: Students create tape design on watercolor paper. Video -cut several widths of tape (Hint: Don't try to cut really long pieces. The tape will only get all stuck together. Cut shorter pieces of tape.) *If you finish early: -please help other classmates cut tape. -play a Quizlet game (located under the Adams button at the top). 4. Painting: Students create a shape design in watercolor careful to paint over the tape as if their is not a tape design on the paper. video a. Press all tape down before you paint. You don't want the water or paint to seep under the tape. b. Following your shape and color design, paint an outline of your first shape in paint (no pencil). Use water to fill the shape next. Then, fill in the shape with your paint color. c. If you have any other shapes the same color, outline and paint those. 5. Let shapes dry before painting another shape next to a wet shape. 6. Students remove any tape and they evaluate. |
